The flu is bad across the state, including Wellesley, this season. The Wellesley Health Department wants you to know that it has vaccines available, and that it’s not too late to get your shot.

Wellesley Public Health Nurse Supervisor Ann Marie McCauley said at the most recent Board of Health meeting on Jan. 8 (about an hour into Wellesley Media’s recording) that “Starting in December we’ve had a huge surge of influenza reports. Really unusual for this time of year… I don’t know what this means for the season, if we’re going to have a normal curve and it will drop off or if this is just going to be a bad longer-term bad season.”

Some good news: COVID-19 numbers are low.

To get a flu vaccine from the town (as of early January there was some high-dose vaccine available and plenty of regular), call before heading over to the Health Department at 90 Washington St. (781-489-4356). The current flu vaccine is not a perfect match for this year’s strains, but the latest shot offers plenty of protection against severe illness, and is particularly important for higher-risk groups, according to the Health Department.
