Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club, Virtual Wonder Run

May 27, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club, Wonder RunWe always look forward to the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) Wonder Run but, unsurprisingly, the charitable organization has had to reimagine the event due to COVID-19 concerns.

This year a “Virtual Wonder Run” will take place in support of two community organizations — The Second Step program and Family Promise Metrowest.

The WHJWC encourages the community to join or donate in support of The Second Step and Family Promise through a GoFundMe campaign. Both programs are committed to helping families through difficult times, and are facing difficult times of their own with the increased critical financial needs associated with COVID-19.

Here’s how the Virtual Fun Run works:

Family fun at Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club Wonder Run

May 17, 2019 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

SPONSORED POST: The weather forecast says the rain will take a day off and the temp will be a civilized 70 degrees, so get ready to enjoy the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) 5th annual Wonder Run 5k and Kids Fun Run. The annual fundraiser will take place on Sunday, May 19, and all runners and walkers are welcome. The 5k starts at 8:30am at the Wellesley High School track and takes runners and walkers on a scenic tour of town. The Kids Fun Run, which takes place on the High School track, starts at 9:30am.

Remember last month when you watched in awe as the elite Boston Marathoners sprinted through Wellesley Square? Impressive, of course, but with the Wonder Run, the WHJWC has arranged the type of day that’s a little less intense. The Wonder Run is all about the fun, and this year in honor of the Club’s 75th Anniversary, the run will be retro 70’s themed. Bring your favorite costume and join us for some fun – tube socks and sweatbands encouraged!

Whether you’re one of those intense in-it-to-win-it types or you just want to low-key get out there, one thing stays the same in this race — all proceeds help organizer WHJWC provide scholarships and other charitable aid. In 2018, the group gave away  $143,000 — $72,000 in scholarships and $71,000 in grants to organizations and programs that provide education, enrichment and essential services to our local population.

Online pre-registration is $30 (Wonder Run 5K) and $10 (Kids Fun Run) and is now available. Pre-registration closes Saturday, May 18, 10am.Wonder Run t-shirts will be given to the first 250 online registrants for the 5K only, so please register early.

Wellesley Junior Women’s Club Wonder Run is May 19

April 20, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

SPONSORED POST: The big day is coming up as the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) prepares to welcome runners of all talent levels for its 6th annual Wonder Run 5k and Kids Fun Run on Sunday, May 19. The 5k starts at 8:30am at the Wellesley High School track and takes runners on a scenic tour of town. The Kids Fun Run, also at the WHS track, starts at 9:30am. Think of the Wonder Run as your own personal “Boston Marathon” without all the arduous training and fundraising.  Register here.

One of the great things about the Wonder Run is the wholesome, party atmosphere it brings with it. People run singly, stretching their legs after a long winter, or in large, raucous groups. You’ll see plenty of parents pushing strollers and triumphant kids crossing the finish line of their first-ever 5k. It’s just good, Spring-time fun. To add to the fun and in honor of the Club’s 75th Anniversary, the run will be 70’s “Retro” themed this year – sweatbands and tube socks encouraged!

The Wonder Run 5k and Kids Fun Run are part of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend. The WHJWC anticipates hundreds of participants and great community support. ALL runners and walkers are welcome, so on your mark, get set, go!

In 2018, the Junior Women’s Club awarded $143,000 in scholarships and non-profit grants.

Get out there and enjoy the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club Wonder Run, Sunday, May 20

SPONSORED POST: It’s finally almost here. The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) 5th annual Wonder Run 5k and Kids Fun Run is set to take place on Sunday, May 20. The 5k starts at 8:30am at the Wellesley High School track and takes runners and walkers on a scenic tour of town. The Kids Fun Run, which takes place on the High School track, starts at 9:30am.

Remember last month when you felt so bad for the Boston Marathoners as they sloshed through town in the sleet and the pouring rain, shivering in the hypothermia-inducing 30-degree temperatures? Well, the WHJWC has arranged the type of day when the only shock to your system will be when you discover that, wow, your entire family is really pretty good at this running thing.

Whether you’re one of those intense in it to win it types or you just want to low-key get out there, one thing stays the same in this race — all proceeds help organizer WHJWC provide scholarships and other charitable aid. In 2017, the group gave away $143,000 — $72,000 in scholarships and $71,000 in grants.

Online pre-registration is $30 (Wonder Run 5K) and $10 (Kids Fun Run) and is now available. Register early to secure your Wonder Run 5K T-Shirt!  The first 300 5K registrants will receive a race t-shirt.

Just add kids and fun to the Kids Fun Run part of the morning.
