Au Revoir to Wellesley shop Your French Gift

March 31, 2016 by Bob Brown

Your French Gift
Here’s what Your French Gift’s space looked like in 2013 before it opened

UPDATE (May 16): Your French Gift will be moving to Malden as of June 1. Most items in the Wellesley store will be on sale before the move at prices designed to make the move easier… Your French Gift’s online store remains open throughout.

Your French Gift, the shop at 269 Washington St. in Wellesley that opened in 2013, is closing its brick-and-mortar location but will continue operating online. Signs hanging in the windows advertise space being available via Conviser Property Group.

The shop imported authentic French items, from scarves to umbrellas to perfumes. Owner Leila Cahillane was an early Swellesley advertising supporter, and we wish her the best.

Ooh la la! Your French Gift set to open in Wellesley in 2013

April 28, 2013 by Bob Brown

French gifts april 2013

A new shop called Your French Gift  this summer is slated to occupy the space at 269 Washington St., formerly occupied by Home Care Assistance. The business was started by Isabelle B., a French native from Lyon.

According to the Your French Gift’s website, the business will feature “a selection of authentic French imported pieces.” An online shop is set to open around the same time as the Wellesley store.

Items available will include silk scarves, umbrellas, belts, perfume and more. The business also indicates its collection of gifts will be suitable not just for women, but for guys and kids too.

Helps to know your French if want to work at new Wellesley gift store

August 20, 2013 by Bob Brown

Your French GiftYour French Gift, the new Wellesley shop at 269 Washington St., is close to opening and has placed an online ad seeking a clerk.  “English communication must be perfect” (that counts out me and probably most of you I’m guessing), knowing French is a plus, and being a US citizen or having your green card is a must.

Wellesley Business Buzz: Fini for French Lessons; Threading shop moving next door; where to drop Toys for Tots donations

November 20, 2018 by Bob Brown

Here’s a round-up of the latest Wellesley, Mass., business news:

Fini for French Lessons Boutique in Wellesley

French Lessons, the women’s clothing store whose name gives me flashbacks to difficile middle school courses, has closed its Linden Square location. The store had been selling its stylish fashions in town for the past 12 years.

According to the French Lessons Instagram account, the sexiest women in the world walk through its doors, so don’t be surprised if you now see some of them lurking about other places in town.

French Lessons still has other shops in Concord, Hamilton and Winchester.

Sticking slightly with the French theme, Nabina’s Salon and Spa, located at the former Your French Gift shop space at 269 Washington St. in Wellesley Hills, has a sign in its window that says it is moving next door. Its neighbor is currently a bead/jewelry store.

Toys for Tots Drop-Off

Wellesley Toyota will serve as an official drop-off location for Toys For Tots donations this holiday season. The program collects new, unwrapped toys and distributes them as holiday gifts to children throughout the community. The program is coordinated by the U. S. Marine Corps.

Toys for children ages 0-3 and over seven years of age are particularly needed this holiday season. Wellesley Toyota is located at 234 Worcester Street (Route 9) and welcomes toy donations during any hour that the dealership is open.

Wellesley wonders: how do you say Brow Threading in French?

July 11, 2016 by Deborah Brown

Brow Threading, former My French Lessons spotIt seems some smart entrepreneur looked around Wellesley and raised an eyebrow when it became clear that there wasn’t a place exclusively for the highbrow set to keep things tidy. That void is set to be filled soon at 269 Washington St., by an eyebrow threading salon. The beauty-conscious of Wellesley Hills will have it made between this new spot and the nail salon that is setting up shop in the old Little Bits Toy Shop space. With so many salons scattered around town, no wonder everybody in Wellesley is so well-groomed (she noted archly). We left a message on the business’ voice mail to find out when they’re opening. We want to make an appointment right away — for journalistic research purposes, of course.

The storefront was recently vacated by Your French Gift, which maintains an online presence as well as lent a touch of French style to our site as an early Swellesley advertiser.

Wellesley businesses that came & went in 2016

February 13, 2017 by Bob Brown

All of Wellesley’s shopping hotspots, from Linden Square to Wellesley Square to Church Square to Wellesley Hills underwent big changes in 2016. Here’s a look back, and ahead:

On the food front, Boloco bid farewell after 4 years next to the fire station in Wellesley Square, and opened the door for BFF b.good to take its place in early 2017.

Wellesley b.good

Caffe Nero replaced an art gallery and dry cleaner at the historic Wellesley Hills train station. The former La Riviera cafe spot in Wellesley Hills remained unoccupied, though speculation swirled about a bank moving in. (Century Bank also moved its location from Wellesley Square to Wellesley Hills, and Webster Bank swooped in to take over the old Citibank space on Central Street.)

Thirst Juice got the healthy juice game started on Grove Street, becoming the first retail client to fill a space at the Belclare complex. Fellow juice & more company Cocobeet (which like Thirst Juice has a Boston location too) opened in early 2017 at the former Wellesley Toy Shop space (and don’t worry Wellesley Toy Shop just moved next door).

Yogurtology goes dark in Wellesley Square
Yogurtology goes dark

Yogurtology melted down late in 2016, leaving an opening next door to Old School Pizzeria in Wellesley Square. And speaking of pizza, Cook’s Window Pizza slid into the storefront previously occupied by Wellesley Hills House of Pizza.

Ace Hardware’s departure from Linden Square was among the more notable closings during 2016, especially since Talbots is slated to leave Wellesley Square and take over that space in 2017. It should be interesting to see what replaces Talbots, along with fellow clothing store Chico’s, in Wellesley Square this year.

Talbots soon will switch from Wellesley Square to Linden Square

Also on the fashion front, Alex and Ani departed Wellesley Square, paving the way for a real estate firm to move in. The Turnabout Shoppe closed after 25 years in town, making way for consignment shop Closet Exchange over near Truly Yogurt.

There remains no shortage of beauty places in town. The Be Styled hair drying salon breezed out of Wellesley Square, only to be quickly replaced by beauty boutique Mane + Mani. Luxotic Nails Bar and Bluemercury moved in to Linden Square, Beauti Lux Spa replaced LittleBits Toys, Privi salon replaced The Color Studio in Wellesley Square, and an eyebrow threading salon slid in to the former Your French Gift shop in Wellesley Hills.

A Be Styled customer gets done up

The Haberdashery and NRO Kids quietly left Church Square, but that shopping area gained a couple of lively new stores, Xylem and Alba Boutique, to complement existing shops such as Cachet and Terrazza.

While on the subject of gift shops, Cafe Mangal-affiliated Muna Gifts closed up its Wellesley Square space early in 2016 (some gift items can still be purchased through the restaurant) and was replaced by the returning dress designer Anna Nieman.  The Sundry Spot popped up in Linden Square offering curated gift services. And if the gift of music is more your style, Bach to Rock opened up for music lessons in Linden Square, too.

Big spaces remain unfilled at the Belclare complex on Washington Street and Grove Street, along with the old City Sports location. If all this has worn you out, then you might want to head over to Naturepedic, an organic bedding store in the Whole Foods plaza that recently replaced the now-defunct The Clean Bedroom store, or Mattress Firm, the new version of Sleepy’s in Linden Square.
