Movie : “The 13th”
February 3, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 7:30 pmFree
Come see the movie “The 13th” A Documentary by Ava DuVernay (director of Selma) On Saturday, February 3. 4-7:30pm at Wellesley Friends Meeting (Quaker), 26 Benvenue Street, Wellesley, MA 02481. Stay for pizza and discussion
After the Civil War, the thirteenth amendment to the Constitution banned slavery, “except as a punishment for crime.” DuVernay documents how this “loophole” has been used to deprive African-Americans of their rights and has led to the present day prison-industrial complex. The movie contains some graphic scenes of violence. It is appropriate for children in middle school and older.
