Submit your event/s. Note that we limit event listings mainly to free or inexpensive public events in Wellesley, such as talks, films, theatre productions, concerts, etc. This is not a place for businesses to promote themselves, their classes, etc. Please don’t submit events that run for weeks and weeks. We approve event listings before they go live, typically within 24 hours.
No business sales, trunk shows, etc. (those would be paid advertisements). Please go easy on the ALL CAPS, exclamation points!!!!, etc.
We also appreciate any contributions to support our independent journalism venture.
Thanks, Deborah & Bob

Scouting for Food Drive: Saturday, Nov. 2
November 2, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Scouting For Food Drive to support the Wellesley Food Pantry takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2. This is the pantry’s largest intake of donations each year, so the public’s help is requested to donate goods as well as volunteer time if possible.
Since 1986, Wellesley Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Crews, and Girl Scouts have participated in Scouting’s National “Good Turn”, the “Scouting for Food” program. Each year Wellesley scouts of all ages–from Daisies to Ambassadors and Cub Scouts to High School Eagle Scouts, and from every school district in town–join three million other scouts nationwide to collect food to feed the hungry. All the food collected in our town goes to the Wellesley Food Pantry to help feed community members who rely on the Pantry, including many children.
About 180-200 volunteers are needed to make sure things run smoothly. We have several shifts of about 2 hours each, with the 12:00-2:00 shift still in need of help – in particular we need people who can help lift the boxes once they are filled with donations (up to about 40 lbs.). People can still sign up by going to www.signupgenius.com/go/ 10c054daaab2ba46-scouting4. We cannot take walk-ins – all volunteers must register in advance (and be in 6th grade or older).
We are looking for non-perishable food items and a few household items (laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper). The items are typical canned or boxed foods such as pasta, peanut butter and jelly, cereal , canned meats and fish, coffee, cooking oils, dried beans, fruits and vegetables. We cannot accept expired food. We do not take candy or other sweets. People will get flyers delivered to their doors by scouts on Oct. 26 that provide guidelines for shopping and donating; they can see a copy of the flyer at www.wellesleyfoodpantry. org/wp-content/uploads/2019/ 09/SFF-Full-Pg-Flyer-2019.pdf.
Our biggest concerns about donations are that the items are not expired and are in an intact and sealed package — we cannot distribute out of date items or any item that has been already opened. We also do not want sweets (such as cookies or soda) or candy, which is especially tricky at this time of year since many people have leftover Halloween candy they want to get rid of.
