Wellesley Club presents journalist/educator Eileen McNamara
November 5, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Wellesley Club will hold its next meeting on Nov. 5 at the Newton Marriott at 2345 Commonwealth Ave. in Newton. The social hour will begin at 6:00 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM.
The featured speaker will be Eileen McNamara, Director of the Journalism Program at Brandeis University, where she has been a professor since 2007. Her most recent book, Eunice: The Kennedy Who Changed the World, was released in the Spring of 2018. Her writing can also be found on Cognoscenti, the online commentary pages of WBUR, Boston’s NPR radio station. McNamara spent nearly 30 years at the Boston Globe, where she covered everything from the streets of Boston to Congress. She won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Her coverage of the clergy abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Boston led to the award-winning Spotlight series in the Globe, the subject of the Academy Award-winning movie Spotlight.
The Wellesley Club is the oldest civic organization in Wellesley, having been established in 1889. The Club’s purpose is “to promote literary and social culture among the members and especially to consider and discuss questions relating to the welfare of the Town of Wellesley.”
