 Board of Public Works seeks interim member

May 28, 2026–The Wellesley Board of Public Works (BPW) is seeking an interim member to serve until March 2027.

Candidates must be Wellesley residents and infrastructure advocates who want to join a Board that prides itself on providing excellent experiences across multiple critical services.

Individuals who are strong collaborators with experience in Town of Wellesley affairs and an understanding of how to navigate our distributed form of local government are encouraged to apply.

A strong background in finance is helpful, as is experience with sustainability and infrastructure.

The deadline to apply for this volunteer position is Friday, June 5, 2026.

The mission and guiding principles of the Wellesley Department of Public Works (DPW) are to provide essential, emergency, and maintenance services to protect and improve the Town’s assets and infrastructure for the safety and well-being of the community.

Board member duties include:

  • Establish and update policies;
  • Create, review, and/or refine plans; develop, review, approve and advocate for the DPW budgets;
  • Oversee the Water, Sewer, and Stormwater enterprises;
  • Communicate and promote the DPW’s mission, goals, and objectives to the broader Wellesley community.

Wellesley BPW members also sit and serve on the Wellesley MLP Board, and help ensure its safe, reliable and sustainable operations. Members also attend monthly BPW meetings,  and Annual, Special and other Town meetings and typically spend several hours per week on Board assignments.

The interim member will serve until Wellesley’s Annual Elections in March 2027 and can run, as can any other resident, to serve for a new three-year term.

To apply, please send an email of interest with the subject line “BPW open seat”  to dpw@wellesleyma.gov by 5 p.m. on June 5.
