Birth certificates are on file for births that occurred in Wellesley, or for children whose parent(s) were residing in Wellesley at the time of the birth. Note that if you were born at Newton Wellesley Hospital and your parents were not living in Wellesley you should contact the city of Newton instead
Certified copies of death certificates are on file for decedents who were pronounced in the town of Wellesley or who resided here at the time of death. Persons who died out of state will not have a record on file in Wellesley.
Certified copies of marriage certificates can be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office. The record will only be here if the couple filed for the marriage intention (application) in the town of Wellesley.
Records before 1881
For any vital records prior to 1881 contact the Needham Town Clerk’s Office. Why? Because Wellesley wasn’t incorporated as its own town until 1881. Before that, the area we call Wellesley was a part of Needham.
