The Town of Wellesley is looking to fill an entry-level professional position for Planner. Current Planner Annie Ryan is leaving to pursue a Master’s in Planning at MIT. The candidate who fills her shoes will get to work on a project Ryan worked on as part of a team and of which she was particularly interested in, a Route 9 enhancement study made possible with State grant money that the Planning Department procured through an application process.

The Town of Wellesley Planning Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Planner, an entry-level professional position in the Department. The hired candidate will work alongside the Planning Director and Assistant Planning Director to make recommendations on comprehensive planning, zoning analysis, site plan review, design review and related matters.
Job duties include representing the Planning Board, Planning Director and/or the Town at interdepartmental meetings, meetings of Town boards, community groups, and regional and state agencies; coordinating and/or assisting in the administration of regulations pertaining to Design Review, Large House Review (LHR), Neighborhood Conservation Districts (NCD), Historic Districts, Subdivisions, and Special Permits; collecting, organizing, analyzing, and maintaining data for use in technical studies and reports related to Planning Department activities; and working on special projects that require community outreach and facilitation skills.
Additional duties include responding to public inquiries and advising developers, builders, realtors, citizens and property owners on items relating to zoning, subdivision, design review, sign control, historic district regulations, site plan review, LHR and NCD review, Planning Board rules and regulations, and the interpretation of Massachusetts General Laws relating to planning and zoning. Requires a Bachelors Degree in Planning or a related field or equivalent, one year experience in municipal planning or a related field or equivalent, working knowledge of all applicable laws pertaining to land use within a municipality and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. The ability to accurately read and interpret plans and maps, such as site plans, building floor plans, contour and landscape plans, and to manage time effectively while prioritizing workflow are a must.
The anticipated hiring range is an annual salary between $45,860 and $57,500.
