MassBay to offer great Wellesley summer camp bargain

April 17, 2015 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

Mass.Bay.summerMassBay Community College is accepting registration applications for its Summer Bridge program.

The two-week program, which runs July 6 – 17, offers two tracks, both billed as two weeks of fun in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Participants can select either one transferable course for credit that is open to rising juniors and seniors, and current seniors, or go for the other track, open to all high school students, which offers four workshops.

At $100, the program is one of the best summer bargains to be had in Wellesley.

Check out our Summer Camp page for more camp ideas in Wellesley and beyond.

Wellesley Friendly Aid seeks washers and dryers

May 6, 2014 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

HomeWellesley Friendly Aid Association is looking for washers and dryers in good working condition for use by residents of the Barton Road housing complex.  Contact Karen Mondell, Program Administrator, at 781-235-3960 if you can help.

Friendly Aid’s mission is to offer assistance to Wellesley residents of all incomes and ages who have a variety of unmet needs.  The volunteer-run organization works to improve the well-being and quality of life of the residents of Wellesley. Almost all of its financial support comes from Wellesley residents and businesses, which allows Friendly Aid to sponsor the English as a Second Language program in town; help residents to process applications for fuel assistance; provide summer camp financial assistance; and provide walkers, shower chairs, wheelchairs, and other medical equipment to residents of all income levels for temporary loan at no charge, among other services.

Helping neighbors since 1898, back when the population topped out at 5,000 (the town is home to a robust 28,000 now, according to the 2010 US Census), Friendly Aid welcomes volunteers at any time.

Swimming pool headed to Wellesley/Dover's Elm Bank Reservation

November 24, 2009 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Elm Bank is currently all about Christmas trees at Mass Hort’s Festival of Trees, but this summer the reservation will be home to a new swimming pool for use exclusively by LINX campers. Look for the pool to reside atop what LINX calls the Slip ‘N Slide hill (or the sledding hill, during winter). It will be an above-ground/in-ground model.
