Wellesley Trails Committee to set date for annual Grand Tour
The Trails Committee is finalizing plans for the always popular Grand Tour event, an 11-mile trail hike that is about 75 percent off-road. The free guided walk typically takes place mid-June.
Dozens of sturdy participants will traverse five interconnected trails, including three stunning Greenway corridors: Fuller Brook Park, the Cochituate Aqueduct, and the Sudbury Aqueduct.
The strenuous hike takes 4 hours or more, including several rest breaks.
Wellesley trails—an overview
Wellesley has 47 miles of trails, nearly two-thirds of which are marked with colored arrows and interconnected. Longer trails connect open spaces across town, and shorter ones provide access to conservation lands.
Map houses can be found at many trail heads, providing maps and information about the town’s trails. An interactive online map is also available.
The Wellesley Trails Committee, an appointed body under the Natural Resources Commission that was formed in 1996, develops, promotes, and maintains the trails. This includes leading a handful of walks in the spring and fall, including a kids’ trails event each fall.
The Trails Committee also provides a list of self-guided trail walks. Trail maps and descriptions are also available.
The centerpiece of the town’s trail system is the heavily used Brook Path within Fuller Brook Park. It underwent a major restoration beginning in 2014.
Off-road trails are closed from dusk until dawn. Bikes are allowed on trails, but cyclists should give way to pedestrians.
No more than two dogs are allowed per person, or three with an NRC permit. Off-leash dogs must be under immediate supervised voice control.
The Town of Wellesley encourages use of the trails as part of its mobility and sustainability efforts.
