Tucked away on a side street in Wellesley is a building that’s something of a curiosity. Abbot Road, much admired for its gracious 100+ year-old homes and towering, mature trees, is also home to a private social and sports club where both casual and high-level games of squash, badminton, and table tennis are played.
The Maugus Club‘s facilities include
- Two international squash courts, one of which converts to an international doubles court
- One North American hardball squash court
- Three regulation-sized badminton courts
- Table tennis
In recent years, Maugus Club competitors have picked up top awards at the highly regarded Pan American Junior Badminton Championships.

Club dues run from a few hundred/year for a senior table tennis membership on up to $1,600/year for a family badminton membership.
As of August 2023, there is currently a waitlist for badminton and squash memberships.
The Maugus Club is Wellesley’s only all-night party option. Members may play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with access offered by electronic key card.
