Wellesley North 40 debate heats up

UPDATE: 6/20/14: The signs have disappeared…

It’s been all North 40 all the time in Wellesley of late, as neighbors of the Wellesley College property as well as town officials and others make their cases and float their wish lists.

A public forum was held on Wednesday during which town officials and residents exchanged ideas. A couple of organized walks over the past week have also introduced or re-familiarized locals to the space.

New this week are signs along the 46 acres of property from the grassroots Save the North 40 movement, as seen here (thanks to a Swellesley reader for sending them to us).

The North 40 Project Blog shared the School Committee’s thoughts on what to do with the land, which could include a new school to replace some combination of the existing Hardy, Upham and Hunnewell elementary schools.

Meanwhile, the Townsman this week reported on town recreation officials’ vision, which could include playing fields or other recreational facilities, especially if the St. James the Great purchase falls through (there are rumblings that news will break on this soon).
