Wellesley Police log: Rogue plower, flurry of ID thefts, worker alleged to have swiped stuff
Wellesley Police Log for the Week of March 11-18
Incidents
On March 13, 2018 at 3:22 p.m. Officer Cunningham was on patrol and observed a plow truck pushing snow onto and across the roadway on Jackson Road. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator and advised him it was against the Wellesley Town By-laws to plow snow onto a public roadway. He was issued a $50.00 fine.
On March 14, 2018 at 12:20 p.m. Officer Shore was dispatched to the police station to speak with a female reporting party about fraudulent activity on her Macy’s credit card accounts. She stated on March 3, 2018 she received seven emails regarding online orders she had placed totaling nearly $8,000 which she had not placed. She contacted Macy’s to cancel the orders and 3 orders had already been shipped, which she later returned the items to the store. She was provided with an identity theft guide and advised to review her credit report to ensure there was no other unusual activity on her accounts. She has enrolled in credit monitoring services.
On March 14, 2018 at 1:45 p.m. Officer DeBernardi spoke with a male and female reporting party at the police station about an attempted identity theft where an unknown party attempted to gain access to the cell phone account and open a bank account using their personal information. They suffered no financial loss. They had already reported the incident to the credit reporting bureaus. There are no suspects.
On March 15, 2018 at 6:20 p.m. Officer DeBernardi spoke with a male and female reporting party at the police station about identity fraud. The reporting parties stated that on March 13, 2018 they became aware of an attempt to open a credit card account using their personal information. They stated the following day they were made aware of an attempt to purchase an Apple computer online using their personal information. The addresses provided for both were in New York. They had contacted the credit reporting bureaus and placed a freeze on their credit prior to speaking with Officer DeBernardi. They did not observe any other suspicious activity on their credit report and suffered no financial loss at this time.
On March 16, 2018 at 4:49 p.m. Officer DeBernardi spoke with a male reporting party at the police station about an attempted identity theft. The reporting party stated he had been made aware that his email had been compromised and he was receiving emails requesting personal information and money. He was provided with the identity theft information pamphlet and advised to contact the credit report bureaus.
On March 17, 2018 at 1:47 p.m. Officer Cunningham was dispatched to the police station to speak with a male reporting party about a missing or stolen wallet. The reporting party stated the last time he recalled seeing it was on March 16, 0218 around 5:00 p.m. while he was at the Wellesley Free Library and he has been unable to locate it since then.
Arrests
On March 16, 2018 at 2:27 p.m. Officer J. Popovski was dispatched to Standish Circle for a report of an unknown male party on the reporting party’s porch. When Officer Popovski arrived she observed the male party walking on Standish Circle. He appeared to be intoxicated. Officer Popovski was able to determine that he was working at a residence in the area and that multiple items he had in his possession had been taken from the residence without the homeowner’s knowledge or permission. The man was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on bail.
On March 17, 2018 at 9:20 a.m. Officer Shore was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street near Emerson Road when he observed a black Jeep SUV traveling at a high rate of speed. He confirmed the speed to be 70 mph in a 50 mph zone and stopped the vehicle. He spoke with the operator and requested his license and registration. The driver provided these documents and a subsequent check revealed an active arrest warrant issued by Framingham District Court for motor vehicle related charges. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on bail.
