Wellesley’s many Halloween-time traditions are gearing up, so be sure not to miss a single opportunity to dress up in costume for visits to pumpkin patches, a fun fair, library activities, and more.

In Wellesley, kids go treat or treating on… Halloween, which is on Thursday, Oct. 31. This year, the public schools have the next day off to recognize Diwali.

Here’s our roundup of Wellesley Halloween Happenings, which we’ll be updating as activities get our attention.

  • Wellesley Recreation Department’s Howlin’ Halloween Contest. Take a picture of the nominated house along with the address and email it to recreation@wellesleyma.gov • Nominations must be received by 10am on Friday, October 25 • Categories: Scariest & Judges Choice • Awards delivered by the Boo Crew.
  • Wellesley Hills Congregational Church Pumpkin Patch, starting Oct. 10.
  • Watch the movie “Beetlejuice” at Wellesley Free Library, Oct. 17, 7pm. Snacks provided. Ages 8+ suggested.
  • West Suburban YMCA annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 19, 11am-1pm, 276 Church Street, Newton. Free, family-friendly, and open to all. The Fall Festival is a celebration of autumn, featuring seasonal activities and entertainment for families. Costumes are encouraged! Highlights: pumpkin decorating; face painting; petting zoo; obstacle course; competitions and games; snacks, giveaways, music.
  • Halloween Time at Linden Square Courtyard, Sunday, October 20, 11am-1pm. Join in FREE fun for kids 3-12 with these activities:Pumpkin decorating, Trick-or-Treating, Sampling by Oath Wellesley, Playa Bowls Wellesley & The Cottage and even a REAL fire truck for kids to explore.  Plus, there’s more with the Bach to Rock Instrumental Petting Zoo, Crafts with the Wellesley Lions Club, Wellesley Food Pantry (so bring a donation) & Cradles to Crayons.  Special thanks to the Wellesley Rec Department for sponsoring the pumpkins!  Scan signage at event for your chance to win a $100 Roche gift card.
  • Halloween Stroll, Saturday, Oct. 26, 11am-1pm. This FREE event will begin at Clock Tower Park, across from Green’s Hardware, in Wellesley Hills. Beginning at 11am, children will be encouraged to trick or treat at the businesses of Wellesley Hills. Please remember to bring your own trick or treat bag!
    There will be games, music, and other treats in Clock Town Park from 11am-1pm. Bring the whole family!
  • Halloween story time & craft at Wellesley Free Library, Oct. 31, 10:30-11:15pm. Come dressed in costume to listen to Halloween stories, sing songs, do a Halloween craft, and participate in a costume parade and trick-or-treat around the library.
