Wellesley Police Department scores $100K gift from anonymous donor
The Wellesley Select Board this week voted to accept a $100,000 gift to the Police Department from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
According to a memo shared by Chief Scott Whittemore, this donor has previously made contributions to the Wellesley Police Department and other law enforcement organizations across the country.
A $150K gift from an anonymous donor in 2022 was used in part to buy an electric vehicle for the department. Other donations have gone to support the police dog and purchase drones.
This latest gift will be used in part to buy Honor Guard uniforms for officers and supervisors who don’t have them. Department-wide “First Impressions” training in the fall of 2025 will also be funded; with lots of new personnel, the department sees this investment in public communications practices as being worthwhile. Leadership training will also be supported through use of the funds.
