If you are prone to looking out your window while driving through Wellesley, there is a good chance you have at one time or another spotted what appears to be a tiny building mounted on a wooden pole, filled with books. No, these aren’t weird art exhibits, they’re Little Free Libraries. Little Free Library is a worldwide organization which aims to spread access to free books. You can go up to any Little Free Library, any time of day, and pick out a book to take with you. There is no fee, and no time that you have to return the book you borrowed; if you like the book you could even keep it. Wellesley has about a dozen Little Free Libraries around (that we know of), which have been built and decorated by Wellesley residents and/or organizations. Below we have gathered photos of all little libraries that we could hunt down, which we did with the help of the Little Free Library app, which shows the location of all Little Free Libraries in the area.
Don’t see your favorite Little Free Library here? Contact us at theswellesleyreport@gmail.com and either send us a pic, or let us know where the Library is.

Hardy School—239 Weston Rd.
As Hardy School has fallen to make way for a new 18-classroom school, so has its Little Free Library. We’ll check in with the PTO once the dust settles and find out if a new school means a new LFL.

Hardy is expected to open in fall 2024. The all-new construction 80,039 square-foot building is designed for an enrollment of 365 students.
While the new school has been going up, students remained in the current Hardy School, where they’ve enjoyed watching the construction action.
