We’re thankful to be part of the Boston University Newsroom program, which matches journalism students with local news sites like The Swellesley Report. We were part of the pilot program in the spring, and had two more students writing for us this past semester.
We shared ideas for stories with the students and their teacher, and were open to pitches from them as well. The students visited Wellesley numerous times throughout the semester to get to know the town and report on events. They and their teacher did a fantastic job.
Emma Kresge, from Buffalo, got to know Wellesley well, covering everything from the MassBay land disposal story to the rising use of AI in town government to the annual spelling bee:
- Town of Wellesley expanding its use of AI
- Wellesley yoga classes serve “the whole neurodiverse range“
- Everything came up green for Wellesley Middle School teachers at spelling bee
- State and MassBay land sale forum in Wellesley draws another standing room-only crowd
Ayana Pierre-Maxwell, a senior journalism student from Hartford, wrote about topics such as the annual pumpkin patch and town budgets.
- Tracking the Select Board’s plan to split town, school budgets
- Wellesley Hills Church Pumpkin Patch: A colorful tradition of volunteers and community spirit
- SunDay protest held in Wellesley went beyond environmental justice issues
- Wellesley sports fields to get lifesaving heart devices
We’ll have a new team of students for the spring semester.
You don’t need to be a BU journalism student to help Swellesley. Please send tips, photos, ideas to theswellesleyreport@gmail.com
