Hello readers — I’m Jack Schwed, and I will be writing for The Swellesley Report this summer.
Currently, I’m a rising junior at Boston University, studying journalism with a minor in political science. I’m originally from Merrick, N.Y.
Since coming to Boston, I have written and reported for several news publications, including The Wayland Post, BINJ.News, Boston Political Review and The Daily Free Press, an independent, student-run newspaper at BU.
I have covered a variety of topics, including higher education, local politics, science and technology, the arts and social issues affecting communities across Greater Boston and MetroWest.
At The Daily Free Press, or the “FreeP,” I currently serve as a Managing Co-Editor, a role I will continue through the fall.
This past semester, I was a Campus Co-Editor and wrote a breaking story about the BU College of Communication dean’s correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein in 2014 and 2015, and an in-depth investigative piece about a former professor’s $1.6 million lawsuit against the university.
During that time, I also helped oversee coverage of the university’s removal of pride flags from faculty office windows, a story that received national attention and was even picked up by The New York Times.
Before this, I worked primarily in the newspaper’s features section, where I started out as a writer, then was promoted to Associate Science Editor and later Business and Science Editor.
In high school, I spent two summers as an intern for Herald Community Newspapers, based on Long Island, where I wrote mostly for the Merrick, Bellmore and East Meadow coverage areas.
I look forward to continuing my path as a freelance reporter at The Swellesley Report, where I aim to deliver news that makes an impact and informs readers about “More than you really want to know about Wellesley, Mass.”
