With Ann Taylor, Different Drummer, Trappings, The Body Shop and other Wellesley Square stores shutting down or preparing to leave, Wellesley residents and shoppers have been speculating about what store might leave next.
Several readers passed along scuttlebutt from retailers and even delivery people in town that The Gap/Gap Kids at 74 Central Street in Central Plaza might be moving on.
But we asked The Gap and here’s what a spokeswoman had to say:
“We are constantly evaluating our store fleet to ensure we have the right stores in the right locations to best serve our customers, and at this time we do not have plans to close our Wellesley Gap store.”
The Gap has been closing more stores in North America than it’s been opening of late, but the company has shown sales and earnings growth, too, and has given a positive outlook for the current quarter.
