Bits and pieces of St. James the Great Church have been coming down in recent weeks, but the real demolition of the Rte. 9 building took place today.
The church’s teardown will pave the way for new recreational facilities to be determined.
St. James the Great parishioners held vigils for 7-plus years before ending the stay in 2012 as the archdiocese sold off its property to the town of Wellesley.
Reactions to the news on social media, some by former parishioners and some by those who lived nearby or who had friends who attended mass there, can be summed up as: “Very sad.”
