We are sorry to hear the news that Gerald Murphy has died. The lifelong Wellesley resident was a legendary Wellesley High School teacher for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2002. He also served on the School Committee, Wellesley Education Foundation board, and as a Town Meeting member. His career also included work at Boston University, where he served as a lecturer and supervisor of student teachers.
Visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., Wellesley, Friday, April 5, 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm. Funeral service at Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St., Wellesley, Saturday, April 6 at 10am. Reception will be held at the church after the service.

Thank you for posting this. A true prince among men, for the last six years he was our neighbor, and our friend–time too short but filled with lasting memories. He was the most optimistic person I have ever known. He will be sorely missed.
