The Wellesley High School football and girls soccer teams each reached the semi-finals in their postseason tournaments this week with impressive victories.
The Raiders’ fifth-ranked football team topped #4 Bishop Feehan on the road Friday, Nov. 15 by a 14-7 score. Junior Tennyson Charney came up big on offense and defense, catching the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and later making a big stop on defense to give Wellesley the ball back to secure the win (see more in the Globe, subscription may be required). Quarterback Lukas Prock connected in the first quarter for a long touchdown pass to Will Zalosh to go up 7-0.
Next up for 8-2 Wellesley will be either Catholic Memorial or Bridgewater-Raynham, with those schools facing off on Nov. 16 in the Division 2 tournament (see bracket).
Separately, the girls’ soccer team won 3-0 over Newton North earlier this week to advance to a Division 1 final four matchup vs. Brookline (see bracket) at Weymouth High School on Monday, Nov. 18 at 5pm. Wellesley has beaten #3-ranked Brookline twice this season, by 3-1 and 2-0 scores.
The other semi-final games features Bishop Feehan and Natick, a team that handed Wellesley a pair of 1-0 defeats during the regular season.
In Wellesley’s round-of-eight game vs. Newton North, the second-ranked Raiders scored two goals early, one by Leila Escher and another by Peyton Keyes. Annie Comella finished the scoring in the second half (see more in the Globe, subscription may be required to read). Wellesley beat Newton North all three times that the teams met this season.
Rounding out its season this weekend are the boys and girls cross country teams. They compete at the State Championship at Fort Devens on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Earlier this week, the Wellesley High field hockey team‘s excellent season ended with a 2-1 loss to Andover High in the semi-finals. The Raiders finished the season with a 12-3-4 record.
Last weekend, the girls’ swim & dive team rolled to its 5th state title in a row.
