Every so often our eyes widen upon receiving a Google alert about “Wellesley” that turns out not to be our “Wellesley,” but rather the Township of this name in Waterloo, Ontario.
The latest, from the Waterloo Region Record: “Wellesley Township soaring toward kite fighting ban in new year.”
The story reads in part: “Council directed township staff in October to draft a bylaw banning kite fighting across the township after kite debris was found on farms neighbouring the Linwood Recreation Complex this past summer. Kite fighting originated in India, using abrasive string, sometimes coated with glass particles or made of metal, to cut the line of an opposing kite line.”
That debris is being ingested by some farm animals.
We’ve threatened more than once to take a road trip to the Township of Wellesley, most likely in the fall when the big Apple Butter and Cheese Festival takes place.
