The latest Wellesley, Mass., business news:
Longfellow Wellesley Tennis & Health Club holds grand opening
The Longfellow Wellesley Tennis & Health Club opened its doors at the former Boston Sports Club location on Great Plain Avenue in the fall, though held a formal grand opening/open house this past weekend to show off its four shiny pickleball courts, tennis courts, strength and cardio training gym, and six-lane pool, and let non-members try things out.
We swung by to check out the facility, and indeed, the club has been spiffed up quite a bit since we visited a few years back.
Darren McLaughlin, director of member services, told us the club’s biggest challenge at the start was building a community, and that they’re starting to feel it grow. One thing that helped was establishing a limited time “pickleball pass” for $50 a month, plus $20 per court hour per group. More than 120 passes have been sold and that has brought a lot of excitement to that part of the building, he said.
The club also offered students returning to the area for winter break special passes. Longfellow has also been signing up individuals and groups, including local sports teams, for training. Longfellow has facilities in Natick and Wayland, too.
