EVENT: Wellesley Symphony Orchestra concert
DATE: Sunday, Feb. 9
TIME: 2pm
LOCATION: MassBay Community College, 50 Oakland St., Wellesley Hills
DESCRIPTION: The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra’s next concert celebrates two great symphonies: Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Both works are among the top favorites of audiences, which you will understand when you hear the WSO perform them.
Mozart’s 40th symphony, written rather quickly in 1788, is in the key of G minor, an unusual key for Mozart. This is one of Mozart’s most beloved works, with moments of delicacy and lightness, yet also is tragic and intensely emotional.
One hundred years later, Tchaikovsky wrote his 5th symphony, a dramatic composition based on a “fate” motif. Tchaikovsky worried that his symphony was a failure. This symphonic masterpiece has become one of the most performed symphonies.
Don’t miss this celebrating these wonderful symphonies with the musicians of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra!
