Students from Wellesley Middle School’s Chinese Mandarin classes, and their teacher, Min Zhou, hosted the popular annual Lunar New Year celebration earlier this week.
Over 350 students and faculty celebrated the arrival of the Year of the Snake with dumplings and traditional Asian cuisine favorites, games, and dance and musical performances by talented WMS and Wellesley High School students. The event also
featured a live lion dance performance by Boston Chinese Lion Cubs, and a kung fu demonstration by the New England Wushu Academy.
The event was supported by the WMS PTO, staff and parent volunteers, and WHS Key Club volunteers.

Dragon dance a big hit at Wellesley Council on Aging
The Wellesley Council on Aging ushered in the Year of the Snake with a culturally rich celebration at the Tolles Parsons Center on January 31st.
The annual Chinese New Year luncheon brought together seniors, community members, and special guests for an afternoon filled with tradition, entertainment, and festivity.
The highlight of the event was a spectacular dragon dance performed by the Asian American Cultural Center. With vibrant colors and rhythmic drumming, the performance captivated attendees and filled the room with energy and excitement. Seniors and guests watched and applauded as the dragon weaved through the space, creating a great community experience.
The Tolles Parsons Center was transformed with festive decorations, including red lanterns and symbolic ornaments, thanks to contributions from the local Chinese community. Attendees enjoyed the chance to connect, celebrate, and learn about the traditions of the Lunar New Year in a warm and welcoming environment.
“This was one of our most exciting and well-attended events,” said Kevin McDonald, WCOA Activities Coordinator. “The sense of community and joy in the room was truly special, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this celebration such a success.”
