Marjorie Agosin, a celebrated writer, devoted mother, and beloved wife, has passed away peacefully at nearly 70, leaving behind a legacy of words, wisdom, and unwavering strength. A woman of extraordinary intellect and passion, she spoke multiple languages fluently and earned accolades from esteemed universities and world leaders, a testament to her brilliance and influence. Agosin was the recipient of the Belpré Medal, Letras de Pro, Latino Literary Prize, and the Peabody Award, together with the United Nations Leadership of Human Rights.
Her impressive collection of 80 published works include books of poetry, children’s novels, and memoirs of her life as a Chilean Jew. She also spent decades in tenure as a professor at Wellesley College. Her students and readers cherish her unique perspective and imagination.
Fiercely independent, she lived life on her own terms, carrying herself with grace, resilience, and an unshakable spirit. A feminist and humanitarian at heart, she dedicated her life to advocating for others, using her voice and pen to inspire change and illuminate truths. Even in her final chapter, she faced her illness in quiet dignity, keeping it from those she loved, her way of protecting them as she always had.
Her words will continue to echo, her love will remain in the hearts of those she touched, and her impact will endure in the lives she changed. She is survived by her two children, her husband and loving family, who will carry forward her passion, strength, and unwavering belief in justice and kindness.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
