9-year-old Wellesley girl to get swept up in World Figure Skating Championships

Wellesley’s 9-year-old Evelyn Johnson is one of about 40 skaters selected to serve as sweepers at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 taking place later this month in Boston at the Garden.
The group of 6-14-year-old skaters will pick up stuffed animals and other gifts thrown on the ice after skaters’ performances during the five-day event.
Johnson tried out in December, and was among those selected for their skating ability, personality and positive attitude.
Senior softball signups
The Eastern Mass. Senior Softball League has opened registration for players age 50 and over. The nearly 500-member league draws players from Wellesley and neighboring towns with games played primarily in Wayland, Medfield, and Framingham. The EMASS season runs from late April through late September, including playoffs.
EMASS has six divisions that accommodate a range of skill levels, two of which play on Saturday mornings and four on weekday mornings.
EMASS adds about 60 players each year.

The calendar for Wellesley High School sports calendar is filling out, with the first competition shown to be boys lacrosse vs. Billerica on the road on March 21.
