Beebe Meadow is an 8-acre protected parcel of land in the Cartwright Rd./Kenilworth Rd. area of Wellesley. The property is near the Needham line, however the entire 8 acres is in Wellesley. The community regularly partners with the Town of Wellesley to combat invasives such as bittersweet, knotweed, poison ivy, and more in an effort to let native plants flourish and to supply habitat for pollinators.
During our summer walk we saw and/or heard grasshoppers, crickets, butterflies, and birds. The meadow was in full bloom with rudebekia, Joe Pye weed, goldenrod, purple and white asters, and more.
Beebe Meadow, summer 2023
Here are some Spring 2017 pictures of Beebe Meadow, before local residents and the Wellesley Department of Public Works joined forces for a Beebe Meadow Appreciation and Clean-Up day that took place on Saturday, April 29, 8am – 3pm.
I’ll keep you posted about the Beebe Meadow clean-up progress. The very promise of it becoming tidy might just inspire me to tackle my own yard.
