The Township of Wellesley is located in Waterloo, Ontario in Canada, and covers some 107 square miles. According to the 2021 census, 11,318 people live there—so less than half of Wellesley, Mass.’s population but spread across 10 times the land within assorted communities and hamlets.
The rural Township is locked in by several of the Great Lakes, and is located north of Cleveland and west of Rochester, N.Y.
The Township gets its name from Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquess Wellesley, the eldest brother of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. It now provides country living for many who commute into larger Kitchener and Waterloo. Per Wikipedia, the largest employer in the township is Jones Feed Mill, located in Linwood. The Township features many farms that produce crops and livestock. The area has a rich Mennonite heritage.
Fun times are had in Wellesley at the Apple Butter and Cheese Festival, Elvis impersonators’ festival, Wellesley Fall Fair, and Santa Claus Parade. The Applejacks, a junior hockey team, resides in Wellesley. A tourism bureau directs you to things to do in Wellesley and surrounding parts of the Waterloo region.
Local government in the Township of Wellesley includes a mayor and ward councilors.
