Eastern Bank—buyout of Cambridge Trust official on July 15, 2024

One visible result of Eastern Bank’s 2023 announced buyout of Cambridge Trust for $528 million is that Wellesley lost its Eastern Bank branch at 258 Washington St. The Eastern Bank branch consolidated with the Cambridge Trust location a mile away at 29 Washington St. in Lower Falls.
First Republic Bank—acquired by JPMorgan Chase in May 2024

JPMorgan Chase in a May 1, 2023 press release announced it had “acquired the substantial majority of assets and assumed the deposits and certain other liabilities of First Republic Bank from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).”
On May 24, 2024, the 284 Washington St. office closed for renovations.
Starting May 28, First Republic clients gained access to more than 4,700 Chase branches nationwide.
No word on what’s going to happen to the much-loved water feature inside the former Wellesley First Republic branch.
