Those passing by Hunnewell Elementary School on April 1 will notice the sign out front with the school name on it has been replaced by McDonald’s golden arches. Good one, and apologies if this is a spoiler for anyone.
And like most good ones, this prank hits a little close to home.
On my way over toward Hunnewell today I happened to be listening to the March 27 Board of Health meeting, and what were they talking about 47 minutes in to the Wellesley Media recording? Yup, school lunches.
Recent chatter on social media got the Health Department’s attention, with posts about moldy waffles and tin foil in pizza, so department members paid the school food service team a visit. The department found no issues, and learned that the food in question comes pre-packaged. But the topic did spark discussion among Board members, including suggestions about more communications with families about food safety. School lunches meet FDA nutrition guidelines, a food service rep said during the meeting.
Oh, and the School Committee has an agenda item for its April 3 meeting: Discuss/vote on food service RFP award.
OK, now back to April Fools’ Day.
