In a scary and surreal scene in Wellesley on Monday morning, a Tesla sped through a snowbank in the Linden Square parking lot and went airborne before crashing into the side of the Pampered Puppies building, destroying the ADA ramp.
Remarkably, the vehicle missed a nearby parked van, and no pedestrians or pups were seen in the area at the time.
According to the Wellesley Police Department, an older male driver struck a curb while trying to park. He reported that there was a mechanical malfunction and that he had his foot on the brake when it accelerated through the parking lot. The police say it appears that the driver may have confused the gas pedal for the brake pedal after striking the curb, which resulted in the vehicle accelerating approximately 100 yards across the parking lot before it collided with the snowbank and then struck a ramp in front of the business.
There were 3 occupants in the vehicle, with no injuries to them or any bystanders.

I appreciated the mention of the vehicle model even if only to understand the scale of the launch.
What a disaster! It’s hard enough to find a decent wheelchair ramp without Charles Lindberg in a jerk-mobile flying through the air and wiping one out.
SMH.
Well said!
Why is it relevant that the vehicle involved is a Tesla? If this had been any other make of car, it would not have been mentioned. I see kind of thing all the time and find it weird. If it were using its self-driving feature, then THAT would be relevant. But even then, lots of cars have the same or similar self-driving/driver assist features. So, the vehicle model is not necessarily relevant in that case, too.
Seems like an EV (and Tesla specifically) anti-bias.
I can’t speak for news outlets beyond Swellesley, but we generally do mention the make of vehicles in reports if we have the info, just to provide detail. For example, a recent police log includes incidents involving an Acura SUV, a Honda sedan, and a Suburu Outback. I don’t know that any of those are EVs. Or the infamous photo of a red Audi squeezed between 2 other cars in Linden Square…
Probably relevant because electric cars accelerate faster. Also every other Swellesley Report article about cars mention the makes.
Symbolic in so many ways.
Not really
