The Wellesley Natural Resources Commission, as part of its “Green
Wellesley Campaign,” is sponsoring an International Climate Change
Action Event on October 24, 2009. This event is co-sponsored with the
Wellesley Green Ribbon Study Committee and will be held from 12-1:30 pm
near the Town’s oldest public tree, the station oak, adjacent to the
Wellesley Square Post Office and near the Wellesley Square Commuter
Station. Wellesley’s event is one of over 3,000 actions that are planned
in over 150 countries as part of an international campaign for climate
protection aimed at creating a new sense of urgency as the crucial
Copenhagen climate talks approach in December. This education and
political action event will include speakers discussing simple and
inexpensive energy conservation actions as well as the value of trees in
protecting the climate. Educational information will be distributed and
there will be a letter writing campaign to Congress in support of
climate change legislation. In addition, the NRC will be distributing
free fluorescent light bulbs. On October 25th, several Wellesley
churches will continue the Wellesley Climate Change Action Event with
worship service activities and ringing of church bells 350 times in
recognition of the number parts-per-million that are recommended of
carbon dioxide for the planet to be able to survive climate change. All
events will also include distribution of educational and letter writing
materials to elected officials. For more information about this event
