The big Pan-Mass Challenge charity bike ride starts and ends for many at Babson College in August, the annual Kids PMC Bike Ride takes place at Babson in June, and now a new Pan-Mass Challenge Teen Mountain Bike Ride will take place in October. While this event won’t be held in Wellesley, it was actually the brainchild of Wellesley teens Matthew (age 16) and Nicole (age 14) Piispanen, both of whom have participated in the PMC Kids ride since they were in elementary school.
“What inspired us to create the event was the fact that our lives have been affected by cancer in so many ways,” says Matt, citing grandparents and recently, an aunt.
The ride, slated for 9-10:30am on Saturday Oc. 13, will take place at Hale Reservation in Westwood is open to riders ages 13-18 (yes, including those seeking Community Service hours!). As with the other PMC rides, the mission is to fund adult and pediatric cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.
There will be a post ride party from 10:30am-noon, which will include food, raffles and music by student DJs The Emcees. There will be prizes for riders who raise $250 or more. The goal is for the whole ride to raise $30,000.
There is a $10 registration fee and a suggested $100 fundraising minimum. To donate to the ride, go to www.kids.pmc.org/tmbr.aspx
Registration is open immediately at www.kids.pmc.org/tmbr.aspx and is limited to 300 riders. For questions, email pmcteenmtb@gmail.com or call 781-449-5300
