David Sutherland, a Wellesley filmmaker known for his beyond in-depth documentaries, will have his new work — “Kind Hearted Woman” — aired over five hours via Frontline/IndependentLens on PBS April 1 and 2 at 9pm.
The Globe profiles Sutherland here, providing background on the hundreds of hours of shooting it took to make this film about a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe of North Dakota and her life full of hardships and ultimately, triumphs. Among Sutherland’s dozen-plus films from the past are The Farmer’s Wife and Country Boys.
