February Vacation Week fun in Wellesley and beyond

February 18, 2017 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

If you’re not spending the upcoming February school vacation week carving moguls on the slopes, or working on your tan at some warm-weather beachy spot, no worries. There’s plenty happening around here to keep the kids occupied.

The Wellesley library has offerings, as always:

Tuesday, February 21
Dinosaurs in the Library
Wellesley Free Library, Wakelin Room, 2pm – 2:45pm

Join us in welcoming Dinoman Dinosaurs! With magic, merry mayhem, and magnificent props, the audience is taken on a trip throughout the Mesozoic era. How do we know dinosaurs were here? What is a fossil? How are they made?  Learn all about these ancient beasts using life-sized inflatable models. This program is fun and informative for all ages. Dinoman Dinosaurs! has garnered a “Best Bet” from the LA Times, quoted in the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared at Boston’s First Night fifteen times.

Wednesday, February 22
Family Flix, Trolls
Wellesley Free Library, Wakelin Room, 1:30pm – 3:15pm

Drop in to the Library for a screening of Trolls (PG, 92 minutes). This colorful movie is full of adventure, friendship, and hilarity. Popcorn provided. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Wellesley Free Libraries.
Cross country skiing, Weston ski track

Thursday, February 23
Classic Movie Night, Tootsie — An unsuccessful actor (Dustin Hoffman) disguises himself as a woman in order to get a role on a trashy hospital soap. Also with Jessica Lange and Teri Garr.
Wellesley Free Library, Wakelin Room, 6:45pm – 9pm

Plenty of other kid’s stuff going on at the library.

Winter fun at Broadmoor Wildlife Sancturary.

Broadmoor Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary

Join us for winter fun and exploration during February school vacation week. We’ll search for the tracks and signs of Broadmoor’s many winter creatures, learn how animals survive the winter, play games in the snow, drink hot chocolate, and much more! Sign up for single-day sessions or all four. Extended hours are available.

Nashoba Valley, snow tubing.
There’s an onsite lodge where parents can relax while the kids have fun.
179 Great Road, Littleton, MA 01460
(978) 692-3033
There’s also skiing on a separate but nearby mountain.

Andy Wrobel filling skating rinkWellesley’s outdoor ice skating rinks
Over at the Hunnewell courts by Wellesley High School. Temps look like they will cooperate so there will be plenty of vacation week ice skating fun to be had. There are 2 big rinks for skating and hockey, and one small one for little kids. It’s skating at your own risk, with no supervision or scheduling, and you’ll need to bring your own skates. The rinks are sponsored by Needham Bank.

Where to sled in Wellesley

Who needs a blue-sky holiday with all this action right around here? (Don’t answer that.)
