Speaking of the Oscars… Daddy’s Home 2, a sequel to the 2015 comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, is scheduled to be shot partially in Wellesley late this month. “It looks like we got ourselves another good old-fashioned dad-off,” to paraphrase and update a quote from one of the characters in the original.
Now we don’t have any particulars on which actors might be strolling through Wellesley Square or dining at Blue Ginger just yet, but note that cast members listed on the IMDB site in addition to Ferrell and Wahlberg include John Lithgow and the now notorious Mel Gibson. If Ferrell is in town, it wouldn’t be the first time, as he has relatives nearby.
One star of the show, though, will be historic Wellesley retailer E.A. Davis, which will host some of the shooting. Rob Skolnick from E.A. Davis is excited: “The site coordinator visited the store with the director by chance. They fell in love with the natural character of our physical space as a genuine hometown establishment.” Expect some interesting doings at E.A. Davis at that time, Skolnick says.
Meanwhile, I’m thinking Ferrell and Wahlberg could do some serious damage in that store… Also, those Belclare condo balconies facing Washington Street should provide some sweet viewing angles.
Wellesley has actually become something of a movie location magnet in recent years. Last year, a movie called Thoroughbred was shot partly in Wellesley.
Oh, and if you haven’t seen the original Daddy’s Home, it has plenty of redeeming value.
