The Wellesley Public Schools (WPS) system has been named by the U.S. Department of Education as one of just over a dozen 2019 Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Awardees.
The award recognizes innovative efforts by WPS to reduce environmental impacts and costs, improve the health and wellness of students and staff, and deliver effective environmental and sustainability education.
WPS had already been honored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with a Massachusetts Green Ribbon Schools award, and was one of three Massachusetts districts reviewed for the national honor.
The town’s Facilities Management Department (FMD) has been recognized in the past for using green-certified cleaning products.
The District Sustainability Award will be presented to WPS during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on September 25.
