Wellesley College‘s Alumnae Hall, a venue for public and student activities on campus, has undergone an $18 million makeover, its first-ever renovation since being built in 1923. The hall re-opens this fall (photos courtesy of Wellesley College).
Now called Diana Chapman Walsh Alumnae Hall in honor of the college’s 12th president, the facility features a 1,000-seat auditorium within its 46,500 sq. ft. The hall is also home to the Ruth Nagel Jones Theatre and the school’s Theatre Studies Department.
New to the hall:
* Air conditioning, plus new wiring, heating and other systems
* Wheelchair accessibility
* An upgraded exterior, including new flat roofs and slate and copper roof repair
* Sustainability improvements that should earn the building LEED certification
* Glass doors and a lobby in the North Portico area
Ann Beha Architects (Beha was a member of Wellesley’s Class of1972) and construction manager Lee Kennedy Co. did the work.
