UPDATE: (Monday, Aug. 5)
According to the police, three arrests for OUI liquor were made during the checkpoint, and one person was placed into protective custody for being intoxicated. The checkpoint went from 11:30 PM to 2:30 AM Saturday morning.
Wellesley will be crawling with local and state police Friday night (Aug. 2) in an effort to nail drunk drivers and otherwise educate the public about driving sober.
“Saturation patrols” will be conducted starting at about 9pm and running through 11pm or 11:30pm, followed by a full-blown checkpoint on Rte. 9. Drivers going east and west will be subjected to the checkpoint.
Such operations are typically funded via special grants.
