We’re not telling you anything you don’t know in that headline, but here’s a Boston Globe story that looks at trade-offs people living in the ‘burbs make when it comes to high property tax bills and community services.
While Wellesley’s average tax bill this fiscal year is up there at $13,326 due to high home prices, the town’s tax rate of $11.56 per $1,000 of assessed value is relatively low.

I don’t care about the rate. The net bill is too high. Every time my bill goes up, I start thinking about going to a more affordable locale. Seniors, who have been paying taxes in this town for 20 or 30 years should be exempted from tax overrides that benefit school age families. Don’t argue that good schools improve property values – we know, we already funded the system that made people want to live here.
Now I know why nobody will come, drop in or leave a package on the front step. I live in a C + home according to assessors evaluation. Waiting to be invited to an A+ home. With the taxes, don’t expect any improvements. It is all down hill from here.
