Memorial Day in Wellesley—what to expect through May 30th

Memorial Day closures: All Wellesley municipal buildings and offices, and Wellesley Public Schools will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day. Regular business hours, and classes, resume on Tuesday.

The Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) is closed on Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25.

Library closures: Libraries will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 23-25, 2026 for Memorial Day Weekend.

Annual Memorial Day ceremony: On Saturday, May 30 the community is invited to attend the Town Memorial Day ceremony.

The originally scheduled ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery has been canceled due to rain.

The 7:30pm formal observance will be held inside Town Hall in the Great Hall on the second floor rather than outside at the War Memorial in front of Town Hall. The program will be abbreviated due to the change in location.

This location is ADA accessible through both the front door on Washington Street and the back door for any Veterans who plan to attend.

Thank you to volunteers from the Friends of Wellesley Veterans, Wellesley High School lacrosse team, and Scout Troop 185 and leaders for their help replacing American flags on Veteran graves in preparation for Memorial Day.

Town Hall summer hours: Wellesley Town Hall moves to summer hours this month. From Friday, May 29-Friday, September 4, hours of operation for all Town Hall departments are: Monday through Thursday from 8am-5pm, and Fridays, 8am-noon

Wellesley municipal buildings and departments will be closed on Monday, April 20 for Patriot’s Day.

Road closures and parking bans: Please see detailed information from the Wellesley Police Department about road closures and parking bans—Roads close at 8:30am in Wellesley on Marathon Monday.

The Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) and Wellesley Free Libraries will be closed.

Buildings will be open for business on Tuesday, April 21. Please check individual department webpages for specific hours.

Wellesley Public Schools will be closed Monday through Friday next week for April break.

Good luck to all runners, especially those who are running and raising funds for local nonprofits.

Wellesley Council on Aging has full house for St. Patrick’s Day lunch

The Wellesley Council on Aging brought a touch of Ireland to town with its annual St. Patrick’s Day lunch, drawing a full house of patrons for an afternoon of food, music, and easygoing celebration.

Patrons enjoyed a classic Irish-inspired meal while the Matt Wright Duo provided live entertainment, mixing traditional tunes with familiar favorites that had the room tapping along.

Wellesley seniors welcome in the Year of the Horse

The Wellesley Council on Aging celebrated the Year of the Horse with a Chinese New Year gathering on Feb. 20 that brought together patrons for an afternoon of food, conversation, and festive decor.

The COA dining room was transformed with red lanterns, hanging dragons, and traditional accents.

The COA extends its thanks to the volunteers who helped decorate the space and serve refreshments.
