Wellesley Cotillion 2019 — an elegant tradition keeps dancing along

January 8, 2019 by Deborah Brown 1 Comment

700 guests danced the night away at the Wellesley 2019 Cotillion at Boston University’s Metcalf Hall. All junior and senior-aged students who live in Wellesley — whether they attend school right here in town at WHS, or private school, or homeschool  — are invited to attend the formal event. The Cotillion Committee said the night “…was a wonderful example of what makes our community special.” All photos from parent volunteer photographers Debbie Avery, Eric Cohen, Karen McGreal, Melissa Golembewski Wilson & John Worrall.

Notice the black socks, the newest fashionista thing at WHS. The girls wore them with their sky-high heels, not to keep their toesies warm (practicality is always damned and denied when these type of trends take hold), but just because. Ever since Cotil I’ve glimpsed black socks peeking out of low-cut white leather Adidas and from the backs of clogs all over town.

The Good Ship Cotillion sinks without parent volunteers. Here are just a few of the over 150 parents who planned, organized, checked-in, loaded buses, shook hands, hung coats, snapped photos, chaperoned, and kept the entire operation afloat.

This is the third year in a row that Boston University has provided the Cotil venue at the Metcalf Ballroom in the George Sherman Union. Bob and I, both Boston University graduates, tore up that very dance floor ourselves many times during our misspent youth. Glad to see some things never change.

The night was over all too fast before luxury motor coaches ran all attendees back to WHS. It is the mandatory mode of travel for the poor kids. No privately hired limos or taking their own cars allowed. More pics on the Cotillion SmugMug site.

I met my wife at the 1969 Cotillion. We were married 7 years later. Can you tell me the date of that Cotillion in 1969 so I can make our 50th “nice to meet you” anniversary a special day?

    thanks………Dana
