Arrests

On September 20, 2022 at 9:32 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the Farms train station parking lot for a report of two people arguing.  The officer made contact with the two parties and learned that they had been asked to exit the commuter rail train because they had not pair their fare.  A female party was identified and a query of her information showed there was an active straight warrant issued by the Dudley District Court.  She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.

On September 28, 2022 at 12:25 p.m. officers were dispatched to a bank on Linden Street for a male party attempting to obtain bank account information with what was believed to be a fraudulent identification.  The male party was located in the Roche Bros parking lot on Linden Street and identified.   A bank employee had asked the man for verification questions to confirm he was the individual on the ID he presented and he was unable to answer the questions.  He made an excuse and left the bank leaving behind the fraudulent ID.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station and booked in the usual manner.  During the booking process Heroin was located on his person as well as a credit card and check made out to the individual whose name was on the fraudulent ID.  The officers were able to locate and contact the male party whose name was the same and indicated he was a victim of identity fraud.  The suspect was held on $7,500 bail.

On October 6, 2022 at 12:20 p.m. officers were dispatched to a store on Weston Road for a report of a male party who appeared to be hallucinating and attempting to reach for things on the ground that were not there.  The officers located the male party outside of the store and identified him.  The store owner stated the male had stolen an item from the store.  A query of his information showed his vehicle had a revoked registration.   The vehicle was inventoried and while pills that the male party did not possess a prescription for were located in a bottle in the vehicle.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner and held on $1,000 bail.

On October 8, 2022 at 10:05 a.m. officers were dispatched to a bank on Washington Street for a report of a male party attempting to cash a fraudulent check.   The male party was located inside the bank.  Officers spoke with the male party who stated the check was issued to him for work he had performed.   An officer spoke with a bank employee who stated the bank had received an alert that the male party had attempted to cash fraudulent checks at other branches.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and released on personal recognizance.

Incidents

On September 12, 2022 at 4:42 p.m. an officer spoke to a male reporting party who stated his daughter’s AirPods had been stolen while she was at school today at Wellesley High School.  She stated she left her backpack unattended in a classroom when she went to lunch.  The AirPods were tracking in Marlborough and Southborough.  The officer spoke with the school resource officer the following day who stated the AirPods had been turned in to security at the high school and they were later returned to the reporting party.

On September 13, 2022 at 9:54 a.m. and officer spoke with a male reporting party from a car dealership on Worcester Street who stated one of their dealer license plates was either lost or stolen.  The reporting party stated the license plate could have fallen off the vehicle somewhere on Route 9 the previous day and they had looked for it and were unable to find it.  It was entered in the computer system as lost or stolen so the dealership can request a replacement license plate from the registry of motor vehicles.

On September 14, 2022 at 2:50 p.m. an officer spoke to a male and female reporting party about a fraudulent bank transaction.  They stated at approximately 4:00 a.m. they received a text message indicating a transfer of $150,000 from their bank account had been initiated.  The went to a branch location in the morning and were advised the funds were transferred to an account at another bank in the male reporting party’s name.  He stated he received some mail on September 6th which indicated a bank account had been opened in his name and thought it was fake.  The bank was able to stop the transfer of funds.  They were advised to contact one of the three major credit bureaus to place a freeze on their personal information to help prevent any further fraud from occurring. 

On September 14, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party who stated she had been receiving unwanted text messages from an individual known to her for several years and wanted advice on how to get the sender to stop contacting her.  She had told the sender approximately 1 year ago that she did not wish to have any communication but she continued to receive messages.  She was advised of the process to obtain a harassment prevention order and indicated she would obtain one.  The officer contacted the sender of the messages and advised the individual to stop corresponding with the reporting party.  The individual indicated they understood and would not make any further attempts to contact them.

On September 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. an officer spoke with a male and female party about attempted fraud.  They had requested new health insurance cards and when they didn’t’ receive them they contacted the health insurance company to inquire why and were advised they were unable to be delivered.  They contacted the post office and were advised their mailing address had been changed to an address in Indiana on August 9th.   They also learned that a credit card had been opened in their name and were able to cancel the card.  They requested a police report so they could place a credit freeze on their information through one of the credit reporting bureaus.  The US Postal Service is investigating. 

On September 15, 2022 at 4:08 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a call for an elderly male party with Alzheimer’s Disease that had wandered away from the home.  Prior to arriving in the area the reporting party had located the male party.  The officer followed up with the reporting party and advised them that a SafeWatch profile would be created in case the male party wandered away in the future so that officers and dispatchers would be familiar with the male party. 

On September 15, 2022 at 8:46 p.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party from a business on Linden Street who stated an employee received a threatening text message from another employee that threatened to come to work the following day with a firearm.  The reporting party stated the employee had texted other employees while intoxicated in the past but was concerned about the threat made in this message.  The officer spoke with both employees and determined the employee who sent the text message was intoxicated and did not recall sending it.  The reporting party stated they would be terminating the employee the following day.

On September 16, 2022 at 7:45 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence for a contractor dispute.  The homeowner had previously spoken to an officer regarding the issue and was advised to place any tools belonging to the contractor outside and to notify the contractor where they were and when they could be picked up.  The homeowner did this and the contractor did not show up until 7:15 a.m. that morning at which point an argument ensued.  The officer contacted the contractor and advised him he was no longer welcomed on the property and would be subject to arrest if he returned.  Both parties were advised the dispute about payment for services was a civil matter that could be taken up with the court.

On September 16, 2022 at 3:14 p.m. an officer spoke to a resident about a past dog bite.  The resident stated that while walking on a stairwell in the apartment building the dog attacked and bit him.  The reporting party provided the apartment of the dog owner.  The officer spoke with the owner who stated she felt the reporting party had antagonized the dog in the stairwell by yelling and waving his arms.  ACO Smith followed up with both individuals, quarantined the dog for 10 days per state guidelines and learned the reporting party had received medical treatment for a puncture wound.

On September 17, 2022 at 12:57 p.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party who stated he had been notified by his credit card company on September 12th about suspicious activity on the account.  He has an airline miles credit card and 2 airline tickets had been purchased for two unknown individuals using his points.  He disputed the tickets and was advised he needed a police report to process the dispute claim.  He was also advised on additional proactive measures to be taken to protect himself from potentially compromised information in the future.

On September 18, 2022 at 12:15 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Warren building for a report of a suspicious male party.  The officer spoke with the male party and learned that he had been reported missing in Newton the previous day.  Contact was made with the facility where the male party resides and they requested that he be transported to the hospital to be medically cleared before returning to their facility.

On September 19, 2022 at 3:54 p.m. an officer spoke with a male party who stated several bank accounts had been opened using his personal information.  The reporting party had contacted the banks and cancelled the accounts.  There had not been any fraudulent activity associated with the accounts.  One of the banks requested a police report to finalize the closure of the account.  

On September 19, 2022 at 6:04 p.m. an officer responded to a medical call for a male party who had taken too much medication.  The male party denied taking the amount of medication a family member indicated that had been taken.  He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

On September 22, 2022 at 10:55 a.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party regarding a PayPal scam.  The reporting party stated she received an email from what she believed was PayPal for a pending charge.  She checked her account and noticed there was a pending charge that she had not made.  She contacted PayPal with the number provided in the email and was advised they could reverse the charge if they would allow access to her computer.  They indicated they credited her account an additional $4,000 in error and asked that she purchase multiple gift cards to return the $4,000.  She provided the male party with the gift card information and then became suspicious and attempted to use the gift cards herself before they could be used by the unknown male party.  She was able to use one $500 gift card.  She removed her credit card information from her PayPal account.  She was advised to monitor her credit report for any fraudulent activity.

On September 22, 2022 at 5:41 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence for a male party that had made suicidal statements to a family member.  The officer located the male party at the residence who denied making the statements.  The officer spoke to more than one family member who indicated he had made suicidal statements.  He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

On September 28, 2022 at 10:19 a.m. an officer spoke with a female party at the police station regarding a dog bite that had occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Standish Road.  She stated as she walked past another leashed dog it was barking at her dog and then bit her in the leg.  The dog was up to date on its vaccinations and was quarantined for 10 days per state guidelines by ACO Smith.

On September 29, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party who concerned about the noise coming from the pickleball courts at the Sprague fields.  The officer suggested that she speak at the next public meeting in town regarding the pickleball courts. 

On September 30, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. an officer assisted a detective from the Pasadena Police Department with a missing person investigation.  The male party who had been reported missing to the Pasadena Police Department by a family member resides in Wellesley and did not wish to speak to anyone in his family.  The officer advised the detective the male party was okay.

On September 30, 2022 at 6:04 p.m. an officer spoke with a female party regarding attempted identity theft and an attempted scam.  The reporting party stated on September 2nd she received an email thanking her for opening a credit card that she had not opened.  She contacted the credit card company and canceled the credit card.  She stated she had also received a phone call from a blocked number from an unknown female posing as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent who claimed there were drug trafficking charges being filed against her in court.  She asked the caller what court and the caller could not produce the name of the court.  The reporting party knew this was an attempted fraud call and did not answer any of the questions the female caller was asking.  The reporting party has credit protection.  There are no suspects.

On October 1, 2022 at 12:54 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence for a report of a catalytic converter theft.  The reporting party stated he was awoken by a buzzing sound coming from the parking lot and observed two male parties.  One male party was standing between two vehicles and the other male party was under a vehicle.  They left in a gray colored sedan.  It was discovered that a catalytic converter was stolen from a Honda CRV.  There are no suspects.

On October 1, 2022 at 12:11 p.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party who had received a text message from what he believed was Amazon advising him there was suspicious activity on his account.  They asked via test for the account holder’s date of birth, social security number and mother’s maiden name.  After providing the information he felt that it might have been a scam and contacted Amazon and learned they had not contacted him about suspicious charges to his account.  The male party began putting security settings on his bank and credit card accounts.  He was advised to monitor his credit with one of the major credit reporting bureaus and to contact the police if he noticed anything suspicious on any of his accounts. 

On October 1, 2022 at 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a noise complaint at a residence and found a large group of youths in the back yard of the residence consuming alcohol.  Many of the youths ran from the area when they observed the officers.  Parents were present at the home and stated they did not provide any alcohol to the minors, but suspected some of the youths that arrived at the party may have brought their own alcohol.  The officers contacted the parents of several of the youths present at the party.  The parents of the host of the party were summonsed to Dedham District Court for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors.

On October 2, 2022 at 9:43 a.m. an officer spoke with a resident who stated he noticed suspicious activity captured on his Ring camera at 6:06 a.m.  A male party attempted to gain entry into two locked vehicles in his driveway.  The male party left the property when he was unable to gain access to the locked vehicles. 

On October 6, 2022 detectives applied for a search warrant for an apartment in Wellesley.  The detectives had been contacted by a law enforcement agency in Florida regarding an identity theft investigation that had been reported to them.  A resident in their community had her personal information used to rent an apartment in Wellesley without her knowledge.  The unknown individual who utilized her personal information sublet the apartment to a male party who paid approximately $6,000 in cash for 6 months rent.  The incident is under investigation.

On October 5, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. an officer spoke with a resident regarding the theft of a Catalytic converter from her vehicle which was parked in the driveway of her apartment building overnight.   An employee reviewed the security footage and a White Toyota pickup truck can be seen on the video around 1:20 a.m. on October 4th.  She stated she brought the car to the dealership and they estimate the cost to repair the vehicle would be $3,800.  

On October 9, 2022 at 11:45 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Croton Street for a report of 2 individuals damaging Halloween decorations.  The reporting party stated he heard loud music outside of his home at 11:40 p.m. and when he went outside he observed a male party tampering with a large inflatable dragon decoration.  He stated the wing of the dragon was damaged.  The officer checked with neighbors the following day to determine if anyone had an outdoor camera that might have captured an image of the vehicle or the individuals involved.  No video was captured.  There are no suspects.

Wellesley police log: Motorist in need agrees to go to hospital; costly computer scam; police station lot not the best place to act suspicious

On September 6, 2022 at 10:59 p.m. an officer was dispatched to Worcester Street for a report of a motorist that had made suicidal statements earlier in the evening.  The officer located the vehicle and made contact with the individual who had cut their wrist and was bleeding.  The party agreed to go to the hospital for evaluation.

On September 7, 2022 at 8:25 a.m. an officer was dispatched to an office building on Washington Street for a report of a male party who was asleep on the floor in the second floor hallway.  The officer was familiar with this male party.  He woke the male party up, advised him he was trespassing and that the property owner did not want him to return to the building.  

On September 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. an officer spoke to a female party who had fallen victim to a computer scam.  She received an email that was allegedly from Norton Security indicating she owed the company $290.44.  She called the number provided and was advised she did owe the money and allowed the scammer access to her computer remotely so she could pay the bill.  The scammer stated that they inadvertently deposited $20,000 to her account and sent a fraudulent bank statement to her printer.  She was instructed by another male party to withdraw $19,000 from her bank account and mail it to an address in Houston, Texas.  She received a call from a male party who stated they only received $13,000 and she still needed to refund them another $7,000.  She withdrew those funds from the bank and sent them to a different individual at the same address in Houston, Texas.  She became suspicious of the transactions, stopped answering the phone and turned off her computer.  The officer requested a subpoena for the phone number that was associated with the calls to the reporting party.   The investigation revealed the phone number was registered to an individual overseas in West Bengal.  

On September 7, 2022 1:43 p.m. ACO Smith was dispatched for a report of a dog bite.  ACO Smith spoke with the reporting party who stated while walking her dog a large dog ran out from a yard and attacked her and her dog, biting them both.  ACO Smith spoke with the owner of the dog and learned the dog was tied up unattended outside and broke its collar.  She advised the dog owner that the dog cannot be left outside unattended and suggested they get training for the dog.  ACO Smith will follow up to ensure the dog is not left outside unattended in the future. 

On September 7, 2022 at 4:23 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the parking lot area of the Wellesley Police Station for a report of two female parties who were acting suspicious.  The officer spoke with one of the female parties and learned that she had been criminally charged with stealing supplies from a hair salon and was ordered by the judge to return the items to the owner.  The officer contacted the female party’s attorney and confirmed this information.  Messages were left for the owner of the property to retrieve the items at the police station.

On September 8, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. an officer spoke with a 14-year-old male party who had purchased a pair of sneakers he saw for sale on social media.  He felt he was being scammed because he sent the money for the sneakers and had not received them yet.  The officer determined the account he purchased the sneakers from originated in Canada and it may take a few days for the sneakers to be delivered. 

On September 9, 2022 at 9:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to Morses Pond for a noise complaint.   They observed approximately 10 youths that ran into the woods when they saw the police.  The youths were consuming alcohol and eventually exited the wooded area to speak with the officers.  The officers made contact with the parents of the youths present and arranged for them to be picked up.   

On September 10, 2022 at 2:45 p.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party regarding fraudulent activity with a credit card and bank account.  He stated he began reviewing his credit card statements and noticed some fraudulent activity and went back further and believes there is a total of 16 fraudulent charges.  He notified the bank and credit card company who will be opening an investigation.

On September 11, 2022 at 12:16 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the Bacon Street Bridge for a report of graffiti.  The spray paint stated, “Destroy this world with paint,”  There are no suspects.

Arrests

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 10:40 a.m. Officer Shore was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street near Bancroft Road when he observed a brown Nissan with temporary registration tags.  He observed that the New Jersey temporary registration tag was covered in laminated plastic.  Officer Shore was aware from his training and experience that temporary registration tags from New Jersey are routinely counterfeited.  He queried the temporary registration number, which showed it had been registered to a Honda Odyssey and expired in 2020.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested his license and registration.   The driver provided Officer Shore with his license and the title for the 2008 Nissan Altima.  A query of the operator’s information showed there was an active straight warrant issued by the Marlborough District Court for motor vehicle related charges.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.

Incidents

On August 22, 2022 a Detective spoke with a Sergeant from the Granby Connecticut Police Department who was investigating a check fraud case where a suspect had successfully cashed a fraudulent check at a financial institution in Wellesley in the amount of $1,450.  The investigation revealed that a female party from Worcester had entered the bank and cashed the check.  A male party had picked her up in Worcester and told her he would pay her $100 to cash checks.  The female party was summonsed to Dedham District Court for Uttering a Fraudulent Document and Larceny Over $1,200 and the male party was summonsed for Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,200.

On August 25, 2022 at 6:01 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party regarding a dog bite that occurred earlier in the day on the Brook Path by Laurel Avenue and Forest Street.  She stated a black lab was running off leash and attacked her and bit her right thigh.  The dog walker contacted the dog owner who came to the Brook Path and took control of the dog.  The dog is properly licensed in the Town of Wellesley.  The reporting party received medical attention for the dog bite and ACO Smith was notified and will follow up.

On August 27, 2022 at 8:45 p.m. an officer spoke to a cyclist on Oakland Street who had struck a large pot hole while riding her bicycle.  The cyclist stated that while riding her bicycle she observed a dirt patch and did not realize how deep the hole was and struck the hole.  She fell off the bicycle and sustained injuries to her face.  She was evaluated by the paramedics and declined medical treatment. The contractor working on the roadway was contacted to make repairs to the pot hole.  It appeared that heavy rains the evening prior caused some of the fill to shift from the hole.

On August 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the area of Abbott Road and Arlington Street for a report of a small child that was outside unattended.  The child was reunited with their mother prior to the officer’s arrival.  The officer spoke with the reporting party and the mother of the child.  The mother indicated she was upstairs and her children were downstairs on the 1st floor.  She noticed that it was quiet and when she went down to check on the children, she found that the child had somehow wandered outside.  The child appeared to be okay and returned home with the mother.

Wellesley Police log: Bank reports suspicious behavior; stockade fencing appears; Hardy school vandalized

Arrests

On August 19, 2022 at 12:28 p.m. Officer Cunningham was dispatched to a bank on Central Street for a report a suspicious person in the bank.  Officers spoke with employees at the bank who advised them that a female party in the bank was attempting to obtain information about an account utilizing a fraudulent identification and credit card.  The bank employee stated the same female party had entered another branch earlier in the day and attempted to do the same. She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and held on $300 bail.  

Incidents

On August 15, 2022 at 3:07 p.m. an officer spoke to a reporting party about check fraud.  The report is incomplete at this this time and no further information is available.

On August 15, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. an officer spoke to a reporting party about an attempted check fraud.  The reporting party stated that an unknown individual offered to purchase an item a teenager had posted on their social media page.  The unknown party sent a photo of a fraudulent check to the teen.  When the teen attempted to deposit the check into the bank via mobile deposit the fraud department from the bank notified them the check was fraudulent.  It did not appear that any information that would have identified their bank account was sent to the unknown individual.  They will follow up with the fraud department from their bank.

On August 16, 2022 at 11:50 a.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party who stated an unknown individual had left sections of stockade fencing on his property.  He stated there had previously been a dumpster where the stockade fencing was located.  He had attempted to contact his neighbors to see if they knew where the fencing came from, but was unable to speak with them.  

On August 17, 2022 at 11:43 a.m. an officer spoke with a resident and contractor regarding a property line dispute.  The resident felt that there had been damage done to some trees on her property and wished for the contractor to stop work until the resident could confirm where the property line was located.  The officer contacted a representative from the building department to see if work could be halted until the homeowner was able to verify where the property line was.  The representative indicated the contractor had a permit to conduct the work and the homeowner could have a surveyor come to evaluate the property line while the work continued. Both parties were advised it was a civil matter and to remain on their side of the property line.   

On August 18, 2022 at 8:08 a.m. an officer spoke with an employee at the Hardy school for a report of vandalism to the building.  There were three areas where spray paint had been used to vandalize the building.  There are no suspects at this time.

On August 18, 2022 at 7:53 a.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party who stated she had ordered an Apple Watch online and it was delivered on August 16th.   She stated when she opened the box the watch was missing from the box.  She inspected the box it was shipped in and noticed it had been opened on the side and then taped back up with packing tape.  She had contacted her credit card company, the store the watch was purchase from and Apple in an attempt to be refunded or have the watch replaced and was unable to do so.  The officer noticed the Apple ID number was in the box and will investigate.

On August 18, 2022 at 6:03 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a male party who had overdosed on medication.  The male party was believed to have taken several Trazodone and Tylenol pills.  He was transported to the hospital.

On August 19, 2022 at 8:22 a.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party regarding the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle.  The reporting party advised him that the catalytic converter was stolen from his Ford van sometime between August 15th and August 19th.  The reporting party had contacted their insurance company.  There are no suspects at this time.

On August 20, 2022 at 2:42 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a gas station on Worcester Street for a report of a female party operating a white truck who appeared out of sorts and may not be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.  The officer spoke with the female party and noticed her speech was slow and lethargic, she had trouble forming complete sentences and would suddenly change subjects.  A query of her information showed that her license had been suspended for an Immediate Threat for a Medical Reason.  She was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Wellesley resident who volunteered as assistant WHS lax coach charged with child porn possession

Wellesley Public Schools issued a statement on Thursday that it “is aware that a Wellesley resident, who had previously served as a volunteer with our WHS Boy’s Lacrosse team, has been charged with possession of child pornography by the Massachusetts State Police.”

CBS News Boston aired a story on the arrest of Ryan Cook on Thursday morning, and spoke with neighbors, who expressed surprise at the disturbing charges, including . CBS News reports that the man allegedly had computer with images  that “included faces of two girls in his neighborhood superimposed on sexually graphic material.” The arrest was made Tuesday, and State Police say troopers assigned to the district attorney’s office are handling the investigation.

The Boston Globe reports the defendant, arraigned at Dedham District Court, was being held on $10,000 bail.

The school system is refraining from further comment for now: “As this is an ongoing investigation, the district has no other information to provide at this time. We recognize that this news is difficult and, as always, our WPS counselors are available to offer support for any students at our schools.”

The man was listed as an assistant coach on the WHS boys’ lacrosse team last season.

Arrests

On August 9, 2022 at 9:15 a.m. Officer Cunningham was on patrol and observed a white Chevrolet pass him and noticed the operator appeared to be texting while driving.  He stopped the vehicle on Washington Street near Worcester Street and spoke with the operator.  A query of his information showed there was an active warrant issued by the Concord District Court for motor vehicle related offenses.  He was transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.

On August 13, 2022 at 11:41 a.m. Officer Cunningham was dispatched to Burke Lane for a report of a vehicle parked in the reporting party’s driveway for approximately 30 minutes and the reporting party did not know who the vehicle belonged to.  Officer Cunningham spoke with a male and female party who were in the back yard of a neighboring property.  The male party stated he was going to be working for a subcontractor and was looking at the residence to evaluate the work he would be doing.   Officer Cunningham contacted the contractor for the project who was unable to confirm whether the man would be working on the project.  A query of his information showed there were two active warrants issued by the Lowell District Court and Newburyport District Court for motor vehicle related offenses.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on $300 bail. 

Incidents

On August 8, 2022 at 1:50 p.m. an officer was flagged down by a motorist who observed an occupant of a motor vehicle toss a laptop out of the vehicle while at a red light.  The reporting party gave the laptop to the officer.  The officer was able to identify the owner of the laptop and contacted them via telephone.   That individual indicated they were currently reporting items that were stolen to the Natick Police Department.  

On August 9, 2022 at 6:56 p.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party from a residence on Grove Street regarding identity theft.  The reporting party stated in November 2021 and August 2022 she became aware that unknown individuals had requested a change of address and attempted to open credit cards using her personal information.  The reporting party was able to cancel the credit cards before charges had been made, she notified the Federal Trade Commission and the credit reporting bureaus.  She stated she had been receiving free credit monitoring and the credit reporting bureau now wanted to charge for the credit monitoring.  The officer advised her to contact the credit reporting bureau and provide them with the Wellesley Police Incident Report Number and that he would file a report summarizing the recent attempted fraudulent activity.

On August 9, 2022 at 7:06 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party who stated around 4:00 p.m. that day her nanny had taken her two children to Perrin Park.  She said one of her children had a disagreement with another child at the park and after the children were separated a woman interjected and began to act in a hostile manner towards the nanny and threatened to post photos of her children on social media.  The officer advised the reporting party a report would be filed and to contact us if anything further occurred involving the woman from Perrin Park. 

On August 11, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. an officer spoke with a male reporting party regarding an email scam.  The reporting party stated that he had been working with an attorney and wired two payments to the attorney and then started to receive demands from the attorney for more money and payments via bitcoin.  He then contacted the attorney via phone and learned that he had received a fraudulent email from an unknown individual posing as the attorney from a slightly different email address and the payments made did not go to the attorney.  The officer is investigating,

On August 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. an officer spoke to a resident regarding a past theft of a pair of diamond earrings.  The earrings were described as 4.02 carat colorless (D) round brilliant full cut natural diamonds of VS2 clarity appraised at $101,500.  The earrings were last seen on August 4th.  The officer is investigating.

On August 12, 2022 at an officer spoke to a store employee of Roche Bros who stated a male party left the store with approximately $500 worth of merchandise.  The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

On August 13, 2022 at 4:56 p.m. an officer was dispatched to Roche Bros Supermarket for a report of a female party who felt faint.  Upon arrival, he spoke with the female party and learned that while shopping an unknown male party approached her and asked where an item was located in the store.  The female party showed the male party where the item was and left her purse in the shopping cart.  She stated when she went to check out she noticed her wallet was missing and she began to panic and felt faint.  The female party was transported to the hospital for evaluation.  The officer reviewed the security footage and observed a male and female party enter the store at 4:24 p.m. that matched the description provided by the reporting party.  The incident is under investigation.

The Wellesley, Mass., police log for the period of July 28-Aug. 5, 2022:

Arrests

On July 28, 2022 at 7:45 a.m. Officer Cunningham took a male party into custody for a section 35 order that had been issued by the Dedham District Court. The male party was transported from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office and transported to Dedham District Court.

On July 29, 2022 at 5:33 p.m. Officer DeBernardi responded to a motor vehicle crash just west of Worcester Street at Overbrook Road. The Natick Police also responded to assist. A red Toyota pickup truck that had been involved in the crash left the scene and turned onto Byron Road in Natick. Officer DeBernardi spoke with the male operator of the Toyota pickup truck, and immediately detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Officer DeBernardi also noticed that the operator’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He appeared to be unsteady on his feet and as he spoke his speech was slurred and he indicated he had consumed some alcohol earlier in the day. The driver agreed to take some reasonable tests of balance and coordination to determine if he could safely operate a motor vehicle. He was unable to successfully pass these tests. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.

On July 30, 2022 at 5:12 p.m. Officer Scopa was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street when he observed a vehicle that had smoke billowing from the exhaust. A query of the registration showed that the registration plates attached to the gray Subaru belonged to Chevrolet Caprice. Officer Scopa stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested his driver’s license. A query of his license showed an active warrant issued by Wrentham District Court for motor vehicle offenses. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all right and was later released on personal recognizance.

Incidents

On July 25, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party from William Street who stated she lost a pair of diamond earrings valued at $17,500. She last saw them on July 17th and has not been able to find them since. She does not believe they were stolen but stated only she and her husband had been in her residence during the time period they went missing.

On July 26, 2022 at 7:20 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a coffee shop on Washington Street for a report of a male party causing a disturbance. A male party approached the officer and asked if he could be taken to the hospital because he seeing and hearing things that were not there. He was transported to the hospital by the paramedics.

On July 26, 2022 at 10:10 a.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party regarding check fraud. She stated she had written a check on February 20, 2022 in the amount of $361.00 and it had been cashed in the amount of $8,690.17 to a different payee. There are no suspects at this time.

On July 26, 2022 at 11:36 a.m. an officer spoke with a female party regarding a fraudulent charge on her credit card. She stated that a charge of $595.00 for a table was on her credit card and she did not order a table or receive a table. She provided the officer with the shipment tracking number. The officer went to the post office and was advised the package was delivered to the reporting party’s address on May 25, 2022.

On July 26, 2022 at 10:59 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Oakland Street and MassBay Community College for a report of a dispute between the driver and another passenger in the vehicle she was in. The officers spoke with the reporting party and the driver who both stated that the male passenger was upset that the driver would not drive him to Marlborough and struck the driver and fled from the vehicle when the reporting party called 911. The male passenger took the driver’s cell phone with him when he fled from the car. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the male party. He will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for Assault and Battery and Larceny Under $1,200.

On July 28, 2022 at 11:10 an officer spoke to a reporting party regarding a cellular phone that was purchased using their personal information. The reporting party received a phone call from SmartPay Leasing regarding an iPhone 12 Pro that was purchased. The reporting party advised SmartPay she did not purchase the phone and they requested that she file a police report and to contact Orion Capital Solutions to file a fraud claim. The reporting party has also notified the credit reporting bureaus and placed a credit freeze on her accounts.

On July 27, 2022 at 4:05 p.m. an officer spoke with a female party who stated that sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. her Lululemon fanny pack was taken from a shelf at a summer camp program. She stated an email was forwarded to the parents of the children in the camp class but
nobody had come forward yet to indicate they had taken the fanny pack. On July 28 th the officer went to the summer camp program to speak with an employee at which time he was informed the reporting party had advised him that the fanny pack had been returned to her and adult had mistakenly taken it when picking up their own personal belongings.

On July 29, 2022 at 1:22 p.m. officers responded with Animal Control Officer Smith to a parking lot on Worcester Street for a dog that had been in a vehicle for several hours. The temperature was in the 90’s on July 29th and even with the windows rolled down the interior temperature of the vehicle was 115 degrees. The officers located the dog owner inside of a business. He thought the dog would be okay in the vehicle with the windows rolled down while he was working. He was provided with some educational material on how quickly the interior of vehicles can heat up and how that can be harmful to pets.

On July 29, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. an officer spoke with a resident about items that went missing from her residence while she was traveling overseas. The reporting party indicated that a Chanel bag was taken, a large amount of jewelry was taken from a safe and an antique silver tea set. There had been forced entry into her bedroom. The officer spoke with a family member of the victim who stated it was likely another family member may be responsible and that this other family member had been taking advantage of the victim. On July 30th the officer spoke with the reporting party who indicated she no longer wished to have the missing items investigated.

On August 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the Hardy Elementary School for a report of vandalism. There were some letters/number characters that were not legible and did not appear to spell anything in particular on rear wall of the building. The reporting party stated that the images were not there on July 28th . There are no suspects.

On August 1, 2022 at 5:43 p.m. an officer spoke with a female reporting party regarding a missing hard drive. The reporting party stated she purchased a new computer in May and had the hard drive removed from the old computer at that time. She stated she had been storing it in a drawer in her kitchen until she could destroy it so her personal information could not be retrieved from it. She believes that last time she saw it in the drawer was sometime between July 23 rd and July 29th . She stated she had placed a freeze on her credit as a precaution.

On August 2, 2022 at 5:13 p.m. officers were dispatched to the Whole Foods parking lot for a dispute between two male parties. The two male parties got into an argument after one party was attempting to back his vehicle out of a space and the other party drove around him. The individual that was backing out of the space then parked near the other vehicle, approached the vehicle and began yelling at the driver. He was advised that while he may have been upset the other driver didn’t let him back out he should not have approached him and he indicated he understood.

On August 4, 2022 at 6:45 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party regarding check fraud. The reporting party stated that a check and been stolen from the mail, altered and cashed. The original check was in the amount of $230 and had been changed to $4,225. She further stated that on July 27th she noticed a debit from her checking account in the amount of $2,710.16. The recipient of the funds was General Holding, which is a collection agency. She contacted them and they stated it was likely payment for an apartment rental but they could not provide any additional information. The incident is under investigation.

On August 5, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. an officer responded to a call for a confused elderly male party who was speaking with employees of a store in the Wellesley Hills area. Officers spoke with the male party and determined that he suffers from memory issues and resides in Westwood. They were able to contact a family member and then drove the male party home.

Arrests

On March 3, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Officer DiCenso was conducting traffic enforcement on Washington Street near Glen Road when she observed a Kia sedan with a broken headlight.  She stopped the vehicle on Washington Street near Pine Street.  She spoke with the operator and requested his license and registration.  A query of his information revealed there was an active warrant issued by the East Brookfield District Court for motor vehicle related offense.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.

On March 4, 2022 at 12:29 p.m. Officer Cunningham was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street when he observed a Hyundai with an expired inspection sticker and a temporary Texas registration.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested her license and registration.  A query of her information showed that her license was suspended and there was an active warrant issued by the Somerville District Court for motor vehicle related offenses.  She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released.

On March 5, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Officer Dixon was on patrol on Worcester Street when he observed a Chevrolet sedan with heavily tinted windows.  He queried the registration, which revealed that there was an active warrant for the registered owner.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator,  and confirmed she was the registered owner of the vehicle.  She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later bailed.

On March 6, 2022 at 10:45 p.m. Officer Dixon was parked along Washington Street when he observed a vehicle pass his location that did not have a valid inspection sticker.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested his license and registration.  The operator stated he did not have a driver’s license.  A query of his information showed that his license was suspended and there was an active warrant for his arrest issued by Boston District Court for motor vehicle related offenses.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on $400 bail.

Incidents

On February 15, 2022 at 6:00 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a business on Washington Street in the lower square area for a report of a past breaking and entering.  It appeared entrance had been gained through a rear door.   A small amount of cash was taken from the cash drawers.  Detectives responded to the scene to process it for any potential evidence.  The incident is under investigation.

On February 15, 2022 at 9:47 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a business on Washington Street in the lower square area for a report of a past breaking and entering.  The business owner stated an Apple desktop computer and approximately $2,300 in cash was taken.  Detectives responded to the scene to process it for any potential evidence.  The incident is under investigation.

On February 17, 2022 at 2:19 p.m. an officer spoke to a female party who stated she was parked at a business on Linden Street and an elderly female driver backed into her vehicle twice attempting to move from her parking space.  She stated there was no damage to either vehicle but she was concerned about the woman’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.  The officer will request a Medication Evaluation from the Registry of Motor Vehicles to evaluate the female party’s ability to continue to drive. 

On February 17, 2022 at 3:16 p.m. an officer spoke to a male reporting party stated $1,500 had inadvertently been sent to the wrong cell phone number on February 12th.  The reporting party stated when they initially contacted Bank of America on February 12th they were advised that the funds would not go through because the phone number and name did not match.  On February 14th they were advised that Zelle payments are non-refundable.  They requested that the officer make contact with the individual who the payment was sent to.  The officer left a message for the individual and contacted the Hughson Sheriff’s Department to assist with contacting the individual who received the $1,500.

On February 17, 2022 at 4:15 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Bacon Street Bridge for a report of offensive graffiti under the bridge.  He located some newly painted graffiti on both sides of the bridge.  The Department of Public Works was notified to remove the graffiti.

On February 18, 2022 at 8:53 a.m. a female reporting party stated that she had agreed to pay a male party $50 each way to a doctor’s appointment in Boston.  The male party drove him a total of 7 times in November and December.  The reporting party noticed the credit card used had several purchases made in November and December totaling over $5,000 in November and December.  The male party will be charged with Larceny over $1,200.  

On February 18, 20222 at 1:50 p.m. an officer spoke to a female reporting party regarding contractors who were doing work at her home that she felt might be attempting to scam her due to the quality of their work and their lack of knowledge.  Officers spoke with the contractors on scene and determined they were not properly licensed.  An Investigator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents responded and issued a stop work order.  

On February 19, 2022 at 1:43 p.m. an officer spoke with a dog walker who stated she found some jewelry laying on the sidewalk.  The items were placed in secure storage until the owner can be identified.

On February 19, 2022 at 2:34 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the area of Worcester Street at Fire Headquarters for a report of a minor motor vehicle crash and road rage incident.  The vehicles continued to travel west into Natick and were stopped by Route 27 by the Natick Police.  An officer spoke with both drivers and learned that the operator of a Toyota sedan thought he had
