We’ve come to learn over the years that whenever a storefront sign in Wellesley says something like “Closed for remodeling” that it usually means either the business is either closing or something drastic is in store. For Linden Square’s Denim & Soul, its remodeling will result in the business morphing into a newly named fashion shop called Marcus. It will carry brands such as 360 Cashmere, Diomi Designs and others might might mean something to someone.
Denim & Soul last year replaced Tobey Grey Boutique, which was previously known as National Jean.
The history of Tobey Grey is an ugly one full of lawsuits, according to this Boston Magazine story.
As for Marcus, it gets its name from Marcus Lemonis, a serial entrepreneur who you might know from reality shows such as The Profit and Celebrity Apprentice. He’s known for turning around distressed companies.
He writes on the Marcus website: “As a way to say thank you for supporting my retail businesses over the past few years, I wanted to give back with a new women’s shopping experience like no other. I’m proud to introduce you to my newest concept, MARCUS, a luxury fashion & lifestyle destination for women offering the latest styles, curated by me. Based on your feedback and interest, I’ve filled the store with best-sellers you already love, while also introducing new brands and statement pieces you won’t be able to live without.”
So, that’s Wellesley’s new reality.
